Sony Bravia KDL-46XBR3

Calibration Notes

Out of the box, black level, contrast, edge enhancement, and tint were too high. Color appears to be slightly undersaturated. Color decoding appeared to be off; however, it also appears as if Sony is utilizing some kind of additive color system to correct colorimetry. Frequency response suffered from phase errors at 18.75MHz and rolled off from there. The color correction system made using a red, green, or blue filter impossible to correct and evaluate color decoding. Vivid mode proved to be the closest mode out of the box to a calibrated image; however, the color temp needed to be changed from Cool to "Warm 2. Edge enhancement was never fully defeatable without softening the image to an unacceptable level, specifically in the vertical direction. Gamma was incorrect, coming out of black too fast. The color decoder could not be checked because is no option to turn off the color matrixing system.
