Out of the box, black level was too high, grayscale was too blue, color decoding was incorrect, and there was obvious edge enhancement. There are two black-level controls, Black Level and Black Extension, which can really screw up the black level. The contrast control can be turned up all the way without clipping whites. User controls are associated with picture modes, not inputs, and there are only three picture modes, meaning you can optimize only three inputs by assigning different picture modes to them. Adjusted black level was very high. ANSI contrast measurements were all over the map, indicated very poor uniformity, probably due to significant hot-spotting. Highest-frequency horizontal burst was visible at both HDMI and component inputs, but both were significantly rolled off.
