Calibration Notes

Out of the box, backlight was at highest setting, black level was too high, contrast was not high enough, grayscale was quite blue. All presets distinctly blue, even Warm. There is a User setting, which provides one control each for red, green, and blue in the user menu. Playing around a bit with these controls, it did not seem possible to achieve an accurate grayscale from top to bottom. Brightness control adjustments were very coarse. Edge enhancement was not much of a problem, even at maximum sharpness setting; still, it was visible, and turning sharpness down all the way did not soften the picture appreciably. The menu system is well organized, but it requires too many button pushes to navigate; must enter and exit each parameter. Video (picture) controls are independent for each input, but color temperature and backlight controls in the Setup menu are global. Even though this is not a 1080p display, there is a "no scale" aspect ratio setting, which displayed 1080i in a window smaller than physical screen, and high-frequency burst looked almost identical to 2 on/2 off burst. At the component input, the HF burst is completely gone, 2 on/2 off burst had some banding, and 3 on/3 off was quite rolled off.
