In reply to writer Wayne Garcia's vinyl wishlist in the latest TAS...
Emmylou's Wrecking Ball was released on vinyl back in 95/96 on the Grapevine label, GRALP 102.
Standard weight vinyl but it sounds superb, hard to imagine how an audiophool re-issue will improve on it.
No sign of Lucinda Car Wheels... on vinyl though.
Just got my vinyl copy of the Cowboy Junkies Trinity Revisited and immediately noticed something that I had not heard on the CD or DVD. On track one, side one, Mining for Gold, I'm pretty sure that I am hearing some print-though on Margo's vocals. Am I delusional or just hearing voices in the dark or do you hear it too?...
Has anybody spent any time with the new vinyl release, "Secret, Profane & Sugarcane" by Elvis Costello? IMO, the overall pressing is lacking in quality, and the sound itself is strained and indistinct, compared to the digital examples I have heard. I wonder if this is a result of initial manufacturing struggles that Starbucks has undergone in their foray into creating vinyl, via Specialty Records.
The entire catalog has been remastered and is being reissued both on CD and on vinyl. I've read that the CDs sound fantastic. Anyone heard the LPs? or better both and can give a comparison ?
Amazon has a ton of new vinyl for sale! I've been away for a few weeks, and searching the New Releases in Jazz comes out with lots of vinyl!
Hi all,
I'm looking for peoples recommendations for records (vinyl only, please, and stuff that's currently available to buy new!) with great stage depth. I have several records that have great stage width (i.e., left to right), but can't seem to find something with great stage depth (i.e., front to back).
Of course, it could well be my system, but I'd like some records that have acknowledged stage depth so that I can take the software out of the equation.
Any tips greatfully received!
Hi all,
MFSL's UHQR version of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon seems to enjoy an almost cult-like existance/following. When they (very rarely!) get a copy, record dealers charge hundreds of bucks for a copy, so I was wondering: from an audio perspective, is it really that good? I have the regular MFSL version in addition to the EMI 100th Anniversary issue, and was wondering if the UHQR version was worth aspiring to.
What is your best favorite recording on vinyl?
Mine is the Classic Records 45 rpm Royal Ballet Box Set, just amazing to hear the subway rumbling deep down in the building on some tracks.
