I just bought a new Cayin 688R on sale, a KT-88 tube integrated amp. I'm wondering if anyone has had a chance to compare and contrast the sound quality of the following power tubes (it will use two 6N6s and four 12AX7s in the preamp section):
a) GE NOS 6550
b) EAT KT-88
c) Grant Fidelity Sh. Treasure KT-88
Hi all.
I'm looking for advice building a system centred around a record player. I've been able to listen to all the individual items I'm considering, but have no way to listen to them at once, seeing as they are all at separate stores (boo!). I'd love your opinions on an integrated amp.
anyone here have experience with these integrated amps like the 505u, 550II and the 507u ?
The power ratings are kinda low for their price consideration, but how is the sound quality ?
Looking forward to some people who have owned these amps and would care to share the experience.
thanks!
I spoke with Richard Schram in 2008 (via a couple Emails) about Parasound making some integrateds and even threw in my very humble two cents for ideas as to basically combining certain models of their preamps with certain models of their power amps such as the P3 preamp with the A23 power amp or the P7 preamp with an A21 power amp. I even suggested their own version of the giant Krell FBI integrated using the JC2 preamp on top of basically two JC1 mono blocks in one big honkin' chassis like the Krell.
Hello,
I have a chance to purchase two Opera Consonance Cyber 880 KT88 based, 100wpc stereo power amplifiers from Grant Fidelity (the China based importer) for $2,000.00 each including shipping but with no warranty as per the rep at Grant. They retail for $3,750 each. I do not have this chance with other brands such as Cayin or Raysonic or Prima Luna, or Cary, Rogue, etc. and do not wish to give business to a few of them anyway due to very negative experiences with either the dealer or the importer / distributor or the manufacturer directly.
I guess this is a question for RH. Even after reading "The Complete Guide to High-end Audio" I remained confused about one basic of electricity that I see referenced in TAS all the time. That being the difference between Current and Voltage. Amps like the Krells are said to be in Current Mode when going from Amp to Preamp to CD player. The new NAD M2 reduces the number of voltage conversion points. Here's my question: If the flow of electricity has both volume and force (current and voltage), wouldn't it always have to have both?
Presently I have a Classe' 15 (175wpc) amp connected to a Modulus 3a preamp, driving DeVore Gibbon 8 speakers. I have heard that Devore speakers sound their best with tubes. I am thinking of buying either a used Sonic Fronteirs sfa-80 amp or a pair of used Prima Luna 7 monoblocks. Would this be a step forward or sideways and will 70-80 watts of tube power equal the 175 watts from the Classe'?
