I'm building a new room which will be 13'x14'x 8'in the front and 10'9" in the rear. I now have a 5.1 system with di-poles for surrounds. I now want to go to 7.1.
My question is: Would another pair of di-poles be best or should i go for direct in-walls for the rears. (all paradigm studio reference speakers.)
Thanks for any input.
Roger
I have been using my Marantz SR5200 receiver and 5.1 Paradigm speakers
with a Panasonic DVD player for past several years. With the optical
audio output of the DVD player connected to the receiver's optical
audio input, I was able to hear good surround sound from all speakers.
Now I have upgraded to Samsung BD-P1600 bluray player and the optical
audio output of bluray player is connected to receiver's optical audio
input. When I play a DVD movie in the bluray player and the player is
setup to output a PCM signal, I hear only stereo sound from the front
Good Day to everyone (it's evening time here in Greece, but I presume that the majority of the fellow members, who might read this topic, are located in US, therefore my "Good Day" addressing).
Hello everyone. This is my first day as a member of AVguide.com and I am excited to pick some of your brains about my first modest attempt at a home theater setup. First my equipment: Pioneer 1018-ah receiver, Pioneer 51-BDP blu ray player, Samsung 50" 1080p plasma(not sure the model, I am at work), Energy RCLCR, Energy RC10x2(fronts), Monitor Audio R90-HDx2(surrounds) and a Martin Logan Abyss subwoofer. I Finally got it all hooked up yesterday and I used the Pioneer MCACC room calibration and the 5 speakers sound great!
I just love my new (used) Thiel 1.5 main speakers. For spousal acceptance factor (I do whatever the voices in my wife's head say...), I'd like to run sans subwoofer. This means that whatever center channel speaker I buy will need sufficient bass response to deal with dialogue without the help of a sub.
My questions are two:
1. Is there a cheaper option? If someone knows of a non-Thiel center channel speaker with full bass response that matches the tone of the Thiel mains, please share. OR
Just got a Yamaha 600 series receiver to complement my Klipsch tower spearkers. Want to expand this to handle not just music but movie sound/partial surround sound as well. I've ordered a center channel (Yamaha) speaker and will get a subwoofer too. Right now, the vocals with the TV on vary by TV channel, some sound ok while others are awful and you can't hear voices.
I picked up a pair of Dahlquist DQ20i's today and want to put them in my home theatre for a while. What would be a good center channel to match with them? I currently am running a full Klipsch set up, but I do have an older Infinity center channel which I may use in the interim until a proper center for the Dahlquist can be had. I know very little about Dahlquist, so I'm not sure if they even have a center channel. Any help is greatly appreciated!!
I am continually frustrated by the center channel performance of my 5.1 system. My front speakers are Quad 22Ls, with a Quad L-Center, so things should be matched up pretty well, at least in theory. But in real life, not so much. For most HD broadcasts, and for DVDs, I find I have to boost the center about +4db, else the dialog gets overwhelmed by music and other sounds coming from the other speakers. Or, if I don't boost the center channel, I end up turning up the volume, and getting overwhelmed when some explosion or other loud event happens.
I have normal point source speakers (not bi-pole or di-pole) for the rear channels in my 5.1 set up.
1- Should speakers of this type still be mounted behind the listening area? If so how far (or what angle)?
2- These are wall mount speakers. If mounted behind seating area, do they need to be angled towards seating area?
Thanks!
