Yamaha makes much of the unit's custom-built YSS-918 24-bit processing chip, which runs the Dolby Digital and DTS algorithms as well as the Cinema DSP programs. Cinema DSP is a long-standing Yamaha feature that uses digital-effects processing to enhance the regular Dolby Digital, Pro Logic, and DTS programs. The RX-V596 offers 20 variations on the three basic surround modes.
