For several years now, I have considered the best Hitachi CRT-based RPTVs to be at the top of what's available using this technology, regardless of price. Last year's flagship set, the 57SWX20B (reviewed in The Perfect Vision Issue 45) produced the cleanest, most beautiful pictures of any set I'd seen, even though it had less than stellar grayscale tracking and an issue with vivid accentuation of certain shades of green. TPV just reviewed the new Hitachi 57T500 (Issue 51), but that's not the top of the line. This one is. The X500 offers nearly every conceivable bell and whistle, but its real claim to fame lies in its brand new CRTs and highly advanced anti-reflective screen.
