The RCA is a 40GB hard-drive recorder built into a progressive-scan (480p) DVD player. Instead of using a paid subscription service for its electronic program guide (EPG), it uses the no-fee Guide Plus+ on-screen program guide. Guide Plus+ data are contained within local broadcasts transmitted over cable and over-the-air. (Unlike TiVo or Replay TV, this guide does not supply satellite data.) If you are using a cable box, you must use one that is on the "acceptable" list in the owner's manual.
