Indeed, to my ear the DVD Standard's sound is reminiscent of the first CD player I ever liked (and owned), the JVC 1010. Though much more detailed, refined, and extended than the JVC, it has, like the 1010, a midband bloom and sweetness that
makes it sound a little like ersatz vinyl.
