The Trumpet is quite similar to all these units in that it does not sound of one ''persuasion'' or the other, except for a really beautiful liquidity and utter lack of grain in the midband. This portion of the frequency spectrum is well served, indeed, in that one can listen for extended periods to the Trumpet with no listener fatigue at all. There is no particular emphasis anywhere in the Trumpet's range, just correct harmonic integrity, excellent background silence, realistic dynamic contrasts, and a remarkable freedom from coloration. Compared to the best-sounding ''classic'' tubed phono section I have heard-the Conrad-Johnson Premier 15, the Trumpet seems less opulent, with greater emphasis and control in both the bottom and top octaves.
