May 27 - Amazon has given us a sneak peek on the upcoming Sony Bravia KDL-40Z4100 LCDs.

This model, also available in a 46-inch version, will be Sony’s new flagship model of the Bravia LCD line.

It will come equipped with a range of features indicative of a flagship LCD including 1080p panels, 4 HDMI ports, 120Hz refrsh rate through Motionflow technology, and a Bravia Engine 2. Sony’s Bravia line of LCDs has already been incredibly popular on a global scale, and these new flagship models appear to have the necessary features to be equally as successful.

Amazon has listed these sets as available starting as early as June 1 for around $2,300 and $2,800 for the 40-inch and 46-inch models.

May 22 - Sony is really sinking quite a chunk of money into OLED (organic light-emitting diode) technology. A couple of months ago, they announced $200 million to develop and produce larger OLED panels.

Today Sony announced that they plan on having large OLED displays ready to go by 2009, and they are authorizing an additional $210 million to make sure this happens.

Sony’s only OLED screen currently in production is a small 11-inch OLED, the XEL-1, but the promise of much larger OLED screens is fairly exciting. Samsung, Sony’s major competitor for large screen OLED displays, is also planning a 2009 release for their medium-to-large OLED screens.

There is no word on when in 2009 these sets will be made available or what kinds of prices we will have to pay to get one.

May 22 - According to Engadget, LG is planning on joining the “infinite contrast” plasma world previously inhabited by only Pioneer.

The LG PG7000 will be a 1080p display with “infinite black” as well. Unfortunately, there are almost no concrete details about the feature set or the potential price and sizes.

We could see these units by July, but the lack of marketing literature suggests a release that is much further off.

May 21 - Panasonic has finally released some hard information on their latest line of Viera plasma TVs. While these sets are meant to appeal to people with quite a bit of disposable income, Panasonic has included some fairly neat new features that will hopefully get some more play over the breadth of their future models.

Aside from the 1080p resolution, 30,000:1 native contrast ratio, and a whole host of connections (including 4 HDMI ports), the most remarkable feature in the new Vieras is the built-in internet access.

The user can only view sites that have been made compliant with Viera’s browsing technology, but Panasonic plans to add a large mass of supported sites at launch.
