February 26 – High-end manufacturer Goldmund has raised the bar in the field of incredibly expensive home theater gear with a new Blu-ray player.

Little is known about Goldmund’s new Eidos 20 BD Blu-ray player, except for the price. The Eidos 20 BD will cost the public about $17,000.

December 20 – Toshiba’s third-generation HD-A30 HD DVD player is being offered by P.C. Richard & Son, a consumer electronics vendor, for the incredibly low price of $200.

This is a sharp price reduction from the previous price of $400 offered by most vendors.

This offer also includes copies of 300 and The Bourne Identity, two of the hottest HD DVD titles around.

December 18 – Sony has decided to jump on the newly-formed sub-$300 Blu-ray player bandwagon by offering their BDP-S300 Blu-ray for staggeringly low $299.

To put this in perspective, the BDP-S300 was priced at $600 not too long ago.
