Sharp Unveils Blu-ray Player With DVR
May 19th, 2008 — By Charlie Robb
May 19 - Sharp has unveiled a new trio of AQUOS Blu-ray players that have built-in DVR functionality.
While the Blu-ray playback side is fairly standard, Sharp is doing some interesting things on the DVR side.
All three units will be able to record content at variable bitrates that range from 4.8 to 12 Mbps. These units will also be able to record in either MPEG-4 AVC or H.264 formats.
The storage capacities on these units is also fairly impressive. While Sharp did include the standard 250GB (BD-HDW22) and 500GB (BD-HDW25) models, they also decided to include a behemoth 1TB model, the BD-HDW30.
Sharp’s new AQUOS Blu-ray player/DVR combos will be available in Japan in July, but they haven’t announced a US release date quite yet.
