May 12 – Apparently Europe is fueling a huge growth in the LCD market these days. As a consequence of this increased demand in Europe, Sony has announced that they will be doubling the number of Bravia LCD HDTVs manufactured in Europe.

Sony manufactured 2 million LCDs between two different Slovakian facilities. 2008 will see that number double to nearly 4 million units by the end of this year, making these Slovakian facilities Sony’s largest LCD producers.

If demand for HDTVs in Europe holds, maybe the content providers over the pond will finally start actually producing HD content for this mass of HDTVs.
