Blockbuster Announces Plans to Sell Games and Consoles
April 29th, 2008 — By Charlie RobbApril 29 - Blockbuster announced today plans to begin selling both video games and video game consoles in their stores.
In addition to selling the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii and DS, Blockbuster will also make a wide selection of games available for purchase.
This helps solidify Blockbuster’s attempted move into a more retail oriented space. In another attempt to jump into the retail space, Blockbuster recently uncovered their bid to purchase big-box retailer Circuit City.
While this deal has yet to be approved, it does demonstrate Blockbuster’s desire to begin competing in a more retail themed market. This move into gaming coupled with the bid for Circuit City and rumors of a possible Blockbuster DVR makes for a very powerful moveĀ on Blockbuster’s part.
