April 30 - According to the Taiwan Economic News, Apple’s upcoming 3G iPhone may be much smaller and lighter. According to their sources, the weight of the newest iPhones will be reduced by between 15% and 20%.

To accomplish this, they say that Apple is going to be changing the back panel from aluminum to plastic and that the screen size will be reduced to 2.8-inches from 3.5-inches in current models.

April 30 - Marantz unveiled a couple of incredible looking new products today, the AV8003 networking preamp/processor and the MM8003 8-channel powered amplifier.

On top of some incredibly gorgeous aesthetics, the AV8003 networking preamp/processor will boast some very respectable hardware and features. Marantz’s new preamp/processor attained THX cetification and will have support for both Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD Master Audio audio codecs.

Coupled with video upscaling up to 1080p and 6 HDMI 1.3a ports (4-in, 2-out), the Marantz AV8003 becomes a very powerful offering.

For good measure, they decided to throw in a host of extras as well including XM/Sirius support and SACD support.

April 30 - Paramount has finally decided to announce their first titles for Blu-ray.

After switching to HD DVD exclusively last year, Paramount had a change of heart early in 2008, prompting them to leap from HD DVD’s sinking ship. Despite this new adoption, Paramount never gave us a release schedule for their upcoming Blu-ray titles.

This has now been changed to a small degree. Paramount has officially announced that May 20th will see the Blu-ray release of Face/Off, Bee Movie, and Next.

April 29 - Blockbuster announced today plans to begin selling both video games and video game consoles in their stores.

In addition to selling the Sony PlayStation 3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii and DS, Blockbuster will also make a wide selection of games available for purchase.
