Best Buy Offers $50 Rebate to HD DVD Buyers
March 19th, 2008 — By Charlie RobbMarch 19 - Best Buy has opened its coffers to help dry the tears of unfortunate HD DVD player purchasers.
They will be giving $50 gift cards to anyone who is in their records as having bought an HD DVD player from Best Buy. This deal also has a couple finer points that separate it from other similar deals.
First, Best Buy will not make you give up your old HD DVD player, which means you can keep it as an upscaling DVD player or use it to watch your current HD DVD movie library.
Second, Best Buy will be sending these gift cards proactively, you won’t have to go into the store to get them. Of course this only works for the people who have their address in the Best Buy system. Anyone who is a reward zone member, people who bought extended warranties, and anyone who bought their HD DVD player online will automatically receive their gift card in the mail.
If you don’t fall into these categories, you can bring your proof of purchase in to receive your gift card.
These cards only apply to people who purchased the HD DVD players before February 22nd.
All things considered, this is quite a deal. It is hard to complain about any deal where you get $50 to spend at your discretion just for choosing the losing side of the format war.

Best Buy is offerring a $50 gift card big deal!!!!I paid $300 for a HD-DVD 2 months ago and now it is obsolete. They should follow suit as Circuit City and Sears are issuing store credit for the full purchase price. I thought Best Buy had the best customer service/relations, guess not……I will definately think twice before purchasing a big ticket item at Besy Buy!!
