CES 2008: TAS’s Paul Seydor Looks at Mid-Priced Loudspeakers at This Year’s CES
January 23rd, 2008 — By The Absolute SoundBy Paul Seydor
January 23 - The last time I covered speakers for a CES report a few years ago, the trend was clear: Multichannel was ascendant and every other manufacturer seemed to be offering “suites” of loudspeakers, i.e., matched sets of five channels plus subwoofer. These have by no means disappeared.
However, in the high end, at least with loudspeakers from $3k–12k per pair, the emphasis was once again on good old fashioned two channel stereo, an impression unmistakably reinforced by the associated gear–a helluva lot of vinyl as source material and a surprising lot of tube and audiophile oriented solid state amplification. Check out this year’s mid-priced loudspeakers showcased at CES.
