CES 2008: TAS’s Neil Gader delves into Solid-State Amps, Preamps, and Integrated Amps at CES
January 23rd, 2008 — By Neil GaderNow Shipping from Boulder, NuForce
A couple entries recently announced or displayed at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest are now shipping. The Model 860 integrated amp from Boulder ($11,500) is shipping and boasts a rock solid 150Wpc, four inputs, and the robust build-quality Boulder is widely noted for.
The new flagship preamp of the Plinius line, Tautoro ($7300), has begun shipping (add $1200 for phonostage). Also look for NuForce to release a media server later this year.
And sitting on the floor in the darkened Tara Labs room were working prototypes for a new Tara amp and preamp.
Completely encased in copper, the amp is said to be a DC-coupled design with a Class D output stage. It might be available at a time to be announced in 150W, 300W, and 600W stereo versions, and perhaps, gulp, a monoblock.
Nothing definitive as of yet, but stay tuned.
