Rocky Mt 2007: E.A.R. Room Surprises

I guess this was my year for surprises, because Dan Meinwald’s E.A.R. USA room proved another pleasant departure from expectations.
Although I’d heard the Disc-Master turntable at CES, I wasn’t as blown away by its sound as our Mr. Pearson has been in TAS.
I may have been, uh, wrong.
In combination with Tim de Paravicini’s fascinating three-way open-baffle loudspeaker and E.A.R. electronics, the system was a touch bright but very open, with superb dynamic gradations, particularly in the bass (on piano LP), and gorgeous tone color.
De Paravicini may be onto something fresh with his dynamic dipole speaker, and he is clearly onto something special with his magnetic-drive ’table.
