TPV INSIDER: In-depth On Movie Download Sites
September 25th, 2007 — By Charlie RobbVongo is another option and no, the name isn’t a tribute to the big hunk who grew to love Sheriff Bart in Blazing Saddles (that was Mongo). Vongo is the online arm of the Starz movie channel. What makes it intriguing is an all-you-can-view subscription offering for $9.99 a month that lets you choose from roughly 1,000 titles and download them to up to three comput¬ers (a nice family-friendly feature).

Jaman, another new entrant, claims only 1 percent of movies made worldwide get distributed in the U.S., which is why it promises to make the best foreign films available. Offerings range from foreign language Oscar-winners to Bollywood spectaculars and Asian action epics, along with American indies—and the video quality is excellent.
What’s more, the price is right: $1.99 buys you a five-day rental and for $4.99 you can buy the file (though, as usual, you can’t create a standard DVD). Add in extensive forums and rating oppor¬tunities enabling film fans to help each other find the good stuff, and Jaman is a breakthrough site for serious cinephiles and curiosity seekers alike.
