CEDIA 2007: New HD DVD Players from Toshiba, Venturer, Onkyo
September 13th, 2007 — By Scott WilkinsonSeptember 13 - The rumors we spread earlier were true: Toshiba introduced the third-gen HD-A3 ($300, October), HD-A30 ($400, September), and HD-A35 ($500, October). All can output 1080p/24—as can the previous-generation HD-A20 and XA2 with a firmware update available in September—and the A30 and A35 offer 5.1-channel analog audio outputs.
Another interesting HD DVD player we heard about is the Venturer SHD7000, which, at $200, should bring HD DVD into a lot more homes.
And confirming another pre-CEDIA announcement, Onkyo’s high-end Integra brand added its first HD DVD player, the DHS-8.8 ($1099, November), which provides HQV processing and can send Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD bitstreams via HDMI.
