CEDIA 2007: New Blu-ray Players from Sony, Sharp, Denon, more
September 13th, 2007 — By Scott WilkinsonSeptember 12 - With the recent announcement that Paramount and DreamWorks will release future titles exclusively on HD DVD, the high-def format war got considerably hotter.
This was clearly evident at CEDIA, where Sony and Toshiba announced the third generation of their Blu-ray and HD DVD players, respectively, and many other companies joined the fray for the first time.
(Samsung is also on its third generation of Blu-ray players, the BD-P1400 and P2400 at $500 and $600, respectively, but they were announced before the show.)
Sony HES-V100 Home Entertainment Server
In an announcement that surprised many, Sony introduced the super-cool-looking, tower-encased HES-V1000 Home Entertainment Server with 200-disc Blu-ray/DVD/CD changer, 500GB hard drive, Blu-ray burner, and wireless capabilities ($3500). The company also unveiled the third-gen BDP-S500 ($700, October) and its ES—that is, high-end—model, the BDP-S2000ES ($1300, November).
