CEDIA 2007: Epson unveils a 50,000:1 contrast ratio projector
September 10th, 2007 — By Charlie Robb
September 10 – Joining Sony and JVC, Epson has also decided to unveil a new high-end projector to consumers.
The new Epson PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 UB does promise to be quite a powerful offering if Epson maintains these specs closer to the release date.
The UB in the name stands for UltraBlack. This is given to this projector because of a new D7 image chipset, 12-bit color, and polarizing filters.
Epson is really striving to create a behemoth centerpiece for high-end home theaters. The PowerLite Pro Cinema 1080 UB is reportedly capable of a huge contrast ratio of 50,000:1 while still maintaining 1,600 lumens brightness.
The scheduled release date is set for sometime in December. There is still no word on the price, but expect it to be at least as expensive as Sony’s VW200 at $15,000.
