September 6 – On the heels of LG’s announcement of their 2nd gen HD DVD/Blur-ray player, Samsung has revealed some details on their upcoming dual-format player.

The Samsung BD-UP5000 will feature full 1080p24 playback and will include support for both HD DVD’s HDi features as well as Blu-ray’s BD-Java interactive features.

Among some of the other morsels about the BD-UP5000 is the inclusion of video upscaling up to 1080p and support for various audio formats such as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.

While there is still no firm release date for Samsung’s latest player, the price has been confirmed at $999.
