Paramount and Dreamworks to release movies on HD DVD exclusively
August 20th, 2007 — By Charlie RobbAugust 20 – Some big news for all of those who support HD DVD as their next gen format of choice emerged today.
In a press release, Paramount and Dreamworks have both decided to begin offering a majority of their titles exclusively in HD DVD. Paramount cites the increased production cost of Blu-ray discs and a lower perceived quality as their main reason for the shift.
This is good news for the HD DVD camp, which has been outsold by Blu-ray 2 to 1 this year in disc sales.
While a majority of studios still have been supporting Blu-ray over HD DVD, this defection may prompt other to become high-def format turncoats, or at least prompt some studios to begin releasing discs on both formats.
