[CES 07] Samsung’s Big on Wireless TV
January 12th, 2007 — By Arnie WilliamsSamsung’s New Wireless 58-inch Plasma

Step out into the central hall at CES, throw a rock, and it’s likely to land on a company booth displaying new-for-2007 wireless products. That’s true at the Samsung booth in a big way. Measure “big as 58 inches, as in the new HT-P5894W 1080p wireless plasma TV that Samsung plans to ship in the 4th quarter of 2007 and priced at $5700.
Everyone loves to mount their flat panels on the wall these days for that elegant appearance and for ease of viewing. What they don’t love is all that cabling hanging down beneath the TV. Kind of spoils the minimalist look many families are after. That’s where Samsung’s new plasma shines. Wall mounted, it looks as clean as a whistle. All of the cabling hooks up to the set top-box lookalike hub., which sends all the appropriate signals to the TV via 801.11n (HD) wireless. The hub can be located below the TV on a shelf or as much as 100 feet away.
The move to wireless is well underway this year at CES. While last year’s CES was the year of wireless prototypes and wishfull thinking, 2007 is the year of wireless delivery—a trend that’s sure to be welcome among aesthetic-conscious and techno-savvy consumers.

Great idea in being able to mount set without the wiring hassles. GHB
