[CES 07] New DVD AVR a First for Meridian
January 10th, 2007 — By Chris MartensMeridian G95 DVD-Audio/Video Receiver

Meridian’s G95 DVD-Audio/Video Receiver is a product that establishes many “firsts. For example, it is Meridian’s first ever A/V receiver and first combination receiver/disc player. It is also the first Meridian electronics component to incorporate Class D amplifiers. But perhaps most importantly, the $8495 G95 offers so much functionality for such a reasonable price that it is apt to become the foundation of choice for many enthusiasts’ first Meridian-powered systems.
The G95 incorporates a high performance DVD-Audio/Video disc player that provides a jitter-reducing triple buffering system said to maximize “HF transparency, sound stage precision and stability while affording “sound and picture quality second only to Meridian’s 800 Reference DVD/CD player. The receiver incorporates a 150 MIPS DSP engine to help handle Dolby and DTS decoding tasks, plus broadcast quality Meridian/Faroudja DCDi video processing/scaling for HDMI output options of 480p, 576p, 720p, 1080i, and 1080p, or component video options of 480p, 576p, or 1080i (pass through).
Finally, the G95 incorporates a Class D 5-channel amplifier that puts out 100 Wpc at 4 ohms.
The real beauty of the G95 is that it provides everything necessary to serve as the platform of a fine quality surround sound system. Just add a good set of surround speakers and a display, and you’ll be ready to sit back and enjoy a true Meridian-grade home theater experience. The G95 will become available in February 2007.
