[CES 07] Sony’s New $33k LCD Display
January 9th, 2007 — By Scott Wilkinson70-Incher is Largest Bravia Yet

Jan 8 - Among Sony’s many announcements at its CES press conference was a new Bravia LCD TV, the KDL-R70XBR3. At 70 inches, it’s the largest Bravia yet, and that’s not all. With 1920×1080 resolution, it features a Triluminous LED backlight rather than the conventional fluorescent backlight, and it displays 120 frames per second instead of the usual
60, reducing motion blur. The LCD panel uses 10-bit resolution to produce smoother gradations than 8-bit panels can manage.
Equally impressive is its implementation of xvYCC color technology, which Sony calls x.v.Color. This standard expands the range of colors the TV can reproduce, making it one of the first to take advantage of the xvYCC capability of HDMI 1.3. The KDL-R70XBR3 will ship in February for about $33,000. It ain’t cheap, but it’s sure to impress the heck out of your friends and neighbors.
