[CES 07] Bamboo Tech Solves Format Problems?
January 9th, 2007 — By Christopher JonesTaking the Mystery out of AV File Formats

Jan 8 - The recent proliferation of media players, cell phones, and gaming units has given us an unprecedented selection of portable devices, but figuring out how to get audio and video files to play on all these different gadgets can be a major pain.
Bamboo Technology has introduced a new software tool for converting multimedia files into the proper format for playback on nearly any portable device. The Vault 360 Platinum program will also organize, categorize, and back-up your files on a PC, and then transfer them to whatever device you like — iPods, PSPs, smartphones, portable media players, and PDAs.
With all the different formats, codecs, and framerates associated with video files, in particular, it is often a trial and error process getting a file to play on a portable device.
The Vault 360 will convert video files such as AVI, DivX, and ASF to portable-friendly video formats such as WMV and MPEG4. This allows you to make files from your DVDs and DVR programs that will play on your cell phones or portable media player.
When you start the process, the Vault 360 program simply asks you what file you want to transfer, and what device you want to transfer it to (you select the device from a long list of available supported options.) There are also options for setting the file quality and size. Available now, the Vault 360 Platinum package costs $50.

Vault 360 will not convert anything encrypted or copyright protected and is basically useless for converting DVD’s movies to view on a portable device. Don’t waste your money.
