LG Electronics has made a big splash here in Las Vegas with a lineup of 20 new LCD TVs, nine of them full 1920 x 1080p high-def units.
The new sets range in size from 26-inches to 57-inches. Many have what LG calls “TruWide viewing angle technology, said to maintain a more uniform contrast ratio, with minimal color shift and distortion, even at extreme viewing angles up to 178 degrees. The sets also benefit from “Simple Link connectivity and “enhanced contrast ratio, such as the 5000:1 specification attached to the 47 model in the LC7 series. Some models incorporate “TruMotion drive, claimed to improve response time for clearer fast-motion images.
Among LG sets with 1080p capability are the LB4D series (32-inches to 47-inches), the LB5D series (37-inches to 57-inches), and the LY3D series (47-, 52-, and 57-inches), which also includes an improved color gamut with 92 percent of the NTSC spectrum. Improved contrast ratio means deeper black levels for more realistic depiction of shadow detail. All models over 26-inches have at least two, and in some cases, three HDMI inputs.
