[CEDIA 06] Optoma Rules Low-Cost Projector Market
September 17th, 2006 — By Scott Wilkinson
Optoma is the reigning king of low-price, high-quality projectors.
Along with their HD81 1080p DLP projector that lists for $9999 (estimated street price $6999), the company introduced the world’s first sub-$1000 720p DLP projector, the HD70. At $999, this puppy includes TI’s BrilliantColor technology and DarkChip2 enhancements. It will start shipping next month to big-box retailers like Best Buy and Circuit City.

The Optoma HD-70 has been shipping for over a month now to Best Buy and I bought one. Years ago I used to own a Vidikron LCD projector and this Optoma is an amazing deal for the money. My family is real happy with this product so I would highly recommend it for someon who is not a fanatical videophile, but is more like me…just an average person who wants good quality video on a very large screen without having to spend more than 1000 bucks for the projector and the screen.
