[CEDIA 06] Store and Stream DVDs in HD with CodexNovus
September 16th, 2006 — By Christopher Jones
A new player in the media server market, CodexNovus is set to release a series of networked media storage and playback devices that will rip CDs and DVDs to a hard drive, and then stream the files in SD and HD, with support for 5.1 and 7.1 multi-channel audio.
The CodexNovus servers work in conjunction with its DV-1 Digital Media Reader, a device that can rip full-length DVDs in about 20 minutes, and CDs in under five minutes. The DV-1 also has an 8-in-1 media card reader, which supports most all of the common flash, photo, and lossless or compressed music formats. The company has a custom-built user interface, which looked very polished and appears easy to search and navigate.
The company’s servers include the DML-200, DML DML-1000 and the DML 1600, which hold 200GB, 1 terabyte, and 1.6 terabytes of data, respectively. The servers can display video in SD and HD at resolutions up to 1920 x 1080p. Copy-protected DVDs are stored on the drives and decrypted as they play.
Available in November-December 2006, the media players are priced at $3,499 for the 200GB DML-200, $4,999 for the one terabyte DML-1000, and $6,999 for the 1.6 terabyte DML 1600. The HDcodex DV-1 will list at $795.
