[CEDIA 06] Anchor Bay Technologies Unveils DVDO iScan VP50
September 16th, 2006 — By Barry Willis
“World’s best scaling?” That’s the claim of Anchor Bay Technologies CEO Craig Soderquist, talking about the new DVDO iScan VP50, available now.
With a suggested retail price of $2999, the benchmark VP50 is the latest iteration in Anchor Bay’s Video Reference Series. Software upgradeable via a serial or serial-to-USB adapter (included), the VP50 offers “any format in/any out, according to Soderquist, including 10-bit 481i/576i/1080i deinterlacing to 1080p output. The VP50 is the first Anchor Bay product equipped with VRS HD Precision Deinterlacing, and the company’s first product to win THX video processing certification.
The VP50’s “PReP (progressive reprocessing) feature removes artifacts injected in progressive output signals by less-than-adequate deinterlacers. It essentially re-interlaces such faulty signals, identifies and removes artifacts, and outputs a clean 1080p signal. Anchor Bay’s VRS Precision Video Scaling II features enhanced sharpness control to preserve all the detail and subtle nuances in the video source. Precision Gamma Correction offers precise individual R/G/B adjustments as well as Precision AV Lip Sync to correct digital audio delay.
Going native: The VP50 accepts 1080p input signals and processes them to the native resolution of any display. It also has a 1080p pass-through mode so the signal is left untouched from source to display. The VP50 is a future-forward product, designed to accommodate input and expansion modules and future Video Reference Series technologies still under development.
