[CEDIA 06] NoiseOut Essentials Does a Sonic Cleanup of Listening Rooms
September 15th, 2006 — By Arnie WilliamsHaving good electronics and great speakers is a crucial first step in creating the listening environment you want. But what about all that noise from the street, and the air conditioning vent, and the activity going on in adjacent rooms? Bonnie Schnitta has a Ph. D. in acoustic science and she’s putting it to good use as president of NoiseOut Essentials. Her company is demonstrating several of its acoustic designs at Booth 189 throughout CEDIA this year.
The company specializes in analyzing your listening environment, modeling the data on a computer, and then providing you with design elements to tone down the unwanted noise in your home. These elements might include putting absorbent backing behind your painted art canvasses, or absorbent panels on your bookshelves, or acoustic carpeting on your floors, or a special kind of color-coordinated throw pillows on couches and chairs, or special wood trim that not only absorbs unwanted noise, but also hides your home theater wiring.
Dr. Schnitta, who formerly devoted her knowledge of acoustics to U.S. defense underwater-acoustics projects, now enjoys concentrating on audio and home theater. She has patents on a line of noise-control products, including in addition to those mentioned above, molding, baseboards, door frames, lamp shades, and wall paper.
So don’t shout; get the noise out.
