[CEDIA 06] Planar Ribbon In-Walls At Everyman Prices: BG Corp says “Yes!
September 14th, 2006 — By Chris Martens
For many enthusiasts, to hear speakers equipped with planar ribbon drivers is to love them. There’s just something about the purity, openness, and lightning fast transient response of planar ribbon drivers that’s hard to resist. The catch, however, is that planar ribbon driver technology isn’t cheap. But Carson City, NV-based BG Corporation is about to change that perception with its exceptionally affordable new RT-series planar-ribbon equipped in-wall speakers, whose mission is to deliver “audiophile performance for the price of conventional technology.
The RT family consists of three models: the rectangular RT-6 and circular RT-6C (both priced at $399/pair), and the RT-6CJ (priced at $299/pair), which is said to be “the most affordable planar ribbon custom speaker on the market today. The RT-6CJ achieves cost savings in part by using a new round planar ribbon tweeter, rather than BG’s more commonly seen rectangular ribbon tweeter. The RT-6 and RT-6C models are shipping now, while the RT-6CJ is slated to arrive by December, 2006.
