[CEDIA 06] Niveus Delivers High-End Media Centers
September 14th, 2006 — By Christopher Jones
Niveus Media, Inc., has released several new media centers with the unique capability to play HD DVD in native 1080p resolution. The HD DVD feature is available in both of the rack-mounted Pro Series servers, n7 & n9, as well as the Summit Series Rainier Edition, which has been designed to complement stereo components in a living room setup. The servers also use a specialized passive cooling technology that eliminates the need for fans, which are a distracting source of noise on many media servers.
All of the new Niveus servers are built around Microsoft’s Windows XP Media Center platform, which can take advantage of dual tuners to watch and record simultaneously, and pause and rewind live TV.
The 2007 Rainier has an Intel Core Duo processor, up to 3 television tuners (2x NTSC, 1x ATSC), 750GB of storage, 2GB of memory, and 8-channel audio. The 2007 Denali server includes HDMI video output, an Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 television tuners (2x NTSC, 2x ATSC), 1TB of storage, 4GB of memory, and 8-channel audio and Serial (RS-232). The Pro Series n7 and n9 servers are available in multiple configurations and hard drive sizes from 1TB to 3TB, and can handle up to 4 television tuners (2x NTSC, 2x ATSC), up to 4GB of Memory, and 8-channel audio.
The Rainier and Denali servers start at $3,499 and $6,999, respectively, and the Series n7 and n9 at $6,999 and $14,999. All of the servers will ship by the end of September.
