[CEDIA 06] In-Wall Subwoofer Anyone? Velodyne’s SC-IW at Your Service
September 14th, 2006 — By Arnie Williams
More and more homeowners are opting for in-wall and in-ceiling loudspeakers to give their homes that uncluttered look. Traditionally, that has worked pretty well with stereo-speaker systems or surround-sound front, center, and rear speakers. But what about the sub? Subwoofers with their big, booming bass requirements generally are too large and unwieldy to be easily accommodated to in-wall installations. Well, that was true until this year’s CEDIA and Velodyne’s introduction of its SC-IW in-wall subwoofer.
Velodyne also manufactures the SC series amplifiers, which are matched to the SC-IW subwoofer and feature 3000W of dynamic power or 1250W RMS power to capably drive two of the in-wall subs.
Velodyne has a wall setup demo at Booth 276 here at CEDIA if you have a chance to see the speaker in the flesh. It’s designed to fit flush in a 2×4-foot wall, with an exposed grille area of just 5 inches. Check it out at www.velodyne.com.
