[CEDIA 06] Who Was That Masked Screen?
September 13th, 2006 — By Scott Wilkinson
Screen Research is introducing the world’s first curved home theater screen with 4-way masking. Dubbed the TheaterCurve XMask Ultimate, each of the four masks are completely independent, accommodating aspect ratios of 1.33:1 (4:3) to 2.70:1. Curved screens are especially useful with 2.35:1 anamorphic projectors to compensate for the distortions that are endemic to wide-angle lenses, and masking helps frame smaller images for best effect. The TheaterCurve XMask Ultimate uses Screen Research’s ClearPix2 acoustically transparent, woven material, which allows sound from speakers behind the screen to pass through it with minimal distortion. It’s available in sizes from 50 to 270 inches wide and native aspect ratios of 1.78:1 (16:9) or 2.35:1.
