[CEDIA 06] A Bright Idea from Limelight Audio
September 13th, 2006 — By Arnie Williams
OK, so you know you need a reading light on the end table so you can curl up with your favorite book, right? And oh, yeah, some music would be nice, too. You’re in luck on both counts, thanks to Limelight Audio. This Schaumburg, IL, company brings you the AL1500 omnidirectional loudspeaker built in to a contemporary lamp. These end-table marvels contain a 6.5-inch woofer and 1-inch tweeter, with audio emitted in a 360-degree range. The handcrafted wood cabinets sport .5-inch wood with metal grills, six different colors, and the lamp shade is made of Dupioni Silk. These babies support 150W, with a cabinet frequency of 48.5Hz, a crossover frequency of 2.2kHz, and an impedance of 4 ohms. They’re hefty little devils, too, at 25 pounds, so you can be pretty sure the cat won’t knock them over as she makes her way to your lap while you’re trying to read.
