How do I become a Golden Ear?

What is the The Absolute Sound's Golden Ear Club (GEC)?

It’s an exclusive “members-only” group of avid audiophiles, mostly readers of TAS (plus Playback, and Hi-Fi+, too!) who receive special benefits with club membership.

Why?

Many of you have requested special offers and purchase incentives from elite manufacturers and their dealers. Still others have expressed an interest in special TAS events, getting inside info from our Editors, reviewing gear, having access to passes for trade shows, and more.

How do special offers work?

A large and expanding number of manufacturers, in conjunction with their authorized dealer networks, have agreed to make exclusive offers to GEC members that provide special incentives for retail purchases (e.g., extended warranties, rebates, special GEC-edition “hot rod” versions of standard products, and other perks). In some cases, however, manufacturers will offer GEC members access to products not normally sold through dealer channels, such as B-stock/close-out items, or a few early-adopter/evaluation models offered at special prices for members to audition and then review, etc.

Does GEC cut my local dealer “out of the loop?”

Absolutely not. Strong local dealer networks are the lifeblood of our industry and a vital part of the high-end audio community. Instead, GEC represents a mutual effort between manufacturers, dealers, and The Absolute Sound to make our hobby more accessible, more rewarding, and—yes—more affordable. It’s a win-win-win scenario where, especially in these troubled economic times, everyone benefits.
