Wilson Benesch Trinity

Chemie1 -- Tue, 06/17/2008 - 18:35

I came across the following excerpt from a distributor's website:

1/3/08 We have received our first shipment of the Wilson Benesch Trinity monitors. This gorgeous speaker boasts some unusual design features which allow it to reproduce music in an entrancing way. A 3 way (midbass, tweeter and supertweeter) which when paired with the WB Torus creates a true full range speaker system, flat from 20 Hz to 80kHz (!), all in a small and extremely attractive system, with the build quality for which Wilson Benesch is world renowned. The buzz is accurate. This speaker system is really something special.

Flat response from 20Hz to 80kHz. Does anyone know if this data can be backed up. More to speakers than frequency response of course...but...
Can't wait to get an auditon. At least WB is in Ontario, Canada...Magico is still not!

According to JV and others, the Torus subs break new ground so the companion WB Trinity monitors should, at a minimum, be quite interesting.

Unfortunately, I do not think they showed the WB monitors at CES? (At least I didn't see/hear them but speakers, in particular, are easily missed at CES/The Show just because of the number of rooms one has to try to cover).

Has anyone heard this new Wilson Benesch Trinity/Torus combo?
Thanks,
Jim

Just went back to Magico website and they now have distributor in Ontario.

This should be fun. I have put off buying until I could hear them. So...now's the time. Will compare to Trinity/Torus combo.

I know JV's preferred electronics is the AR components and he also gave a good article using the GamuT DI 150.

I will audition but do you think the Accuphase 550 class A integrated would have good synergy (enough power??). Or would I need to step up to the 2410 preamp and maybe bridge with two A30 or A45 power amps.

Any other recommendations for either WB's or magico mini ii would be helpful.

thanks,
Brian

I don't know about the sensitivity of the WB, but you'll certainly want more than 50Wpc to drive the Mini.

I've liked other WB speakers I've heard at shows. They are one of the more innovative loudspeaker makers, and pioneered the use of carbon fiber in speaker cabinets.

I've got 200W Hurricanes driving the Minis, and they run out of steam (should that be wind ?) at high levels ...

I heard this speaker at last year's Rocky Mtn Fest. It sounded wonderfully transparent. I believe it uses a ceramic supertweet. Flat to 80kHz? Could be but at that frequency the wavelengths are so small, and so directional that in order to actually perceive that response you'd have to lock your head in a vice to immobilize it. But one thing that was observable was the amount of "air" the Trinity threw into the room. almost a ribbon like quality. I'd like to hear more, hopefully soon
