I was wondering if there was any online source or printed source of information explaining briefly the different types/ terms used in amplifiers and pre-amplifiers ?? For example, PASSIVE pre-amps, BALANCED vs. UNBALANCED, etc. I am familiar with general audio terms, but am looking to substantially upgrade in the future and in my research these terms can get confusing.

Try "The Complete Guide to High End Audio" by Robert Harley (editor of The Absolute Sound).

Also. you may find the Glossary of A/V Terms, which is under "How To/Reference" on AVGuide.com to be useful.
