????????????????????????????????  How about including GEC membership with a subscription?

2nd that!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rossop -- Thu, 10/15/2009 - 14:03

Yes!!! to the above. I live in Australia and it is  pretty well a waste of money joining the GEC. I dont like it at all! Seems like a poor concept. You cant even read an article without paying to join GEC. Very poor form indeed. Appears to be another way to wring money out of consumers.
PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not to worry. Neil's blog will be available for all to see in a week or two.

GEC members do get a window of exclusivity for some (not all) content, but that content will typically be made available  a month or two after it is published in TAS or Hi-Fi+ (Playback content is available immediately).

I agree that you won't get the full benefits of GEC membership if you live abroad, unless you can't wait to see something. Unfortunately, mailing costs on some of the promotional items we will be sending to members make that cost prohibitive (unless we do 'em all as downloads).

Jim, I understand your comments. I would join GEC if I thought it was worthwhile.I have been a TAS subscriber for about 10 years and have been active on this site for a few months. I really enjoy the FREE participation and advice I get here. My concern is that eventually it will become a 'pay for play' site.

It is indeed frustrating to the non-US subscribers. Whilst I can understand (and accept) that the practicalities would not get us the full benefits that a US resident might enjoy, there should be a halfway house, where we - non US TAS subscribers - do not feel as if we're being left out or getting the shaft.

Fair enough. These are still early days for us with this, but we'll see what we can do to accommodate our non US TAS subscribers.
