UK and US compatible HDTV

tonyb -- Mon, 07/30/2007 - 21:36

I currently live in the US and am thinking of buying a new HDTV but there is a good chance I will be moving back to the UK. I know the voltage and DVD regional encoding differences but I am trying to find out whether US standard HDTV is different from UK in the same way as PAL differed from NTSC.

Any further information would be really helpful. Thanks!! :?:

I'm afraid I don't know for sure. According to the little research I have done, it seems that there is no over-the-air HD broadcasting in the UK, though it is possible to get it via satellite or cable. In those cases, the receiver box should decode the signal and display it on an HDTV bought in the US. However, I don't know this for sure, so don't make any major purchases based on my comments here. I'll try to find out more definitive info and post it when I can.
