I've been following a good bit of the reivews and discussions around the TW-Acustic tables, especially the Raven One (since most likely I cannot afford the AC).
They seem to be quite a revelation! Are they really as good as what is said in the press?
I've used several VPI tables in the past, but I am looking to move to that final 'end-all' table.... Some users on AudiogoN claim that the TW-Acustic tables are several notches above the VPI; that they can take you to the
'next level'. Is this true or just hype? If you own a Raven One or have heard it, can you let me know your thoughts? What arm/cartridge do you use? How would describe this table?
Unfortunately, I have to wait until the RMAF in October to hear the Raven personally, but it is definitely tops on my list for listening at the show!
Hi stickman,
I am living with the Raven One for three weeks now. In my opinion it is one of the best turntables I have heard in my system.
If I were you, I would visit RMAF to hear it. If you are not satisfied with what you will hear, please speak to Thomas or Jeffrey and they will give you the best advices which tonearm and pickup will be the best for your system.
You will not been disappionted.
All the best
Andreas (Germany)
Andreas,
thanks for your comments on the Raven. I am already registered for the RMAF and am looking forward to speaking with Thomas and auditioning the Raven!
thanks again
JV and WG have reviewed the TW-Acustic turntables quite favorably in TAS.
There are many, many fine options in turntables.
What's your budget?
Have fun at Rocky Mountain!

Dear Jim,
allow me to revert to this post of yours. The TW Acustic Raven One is one of the alternatives I am considering for the stereo-mono analogue set-up I am in the process of building up.
To clarify matters, I would like to paste here a few sentences taken from a message I posted yesterday under the "Mono cartridges" topic of this very forum:
"I am a classical music lover who is particularly fond of historical performances. ... Many [great historical recordings] are on mono LPs. ... I plan to purchase a lot of mono LPs. As I wish to listen to my (future) mono LP collection in what arguably is the best possible way, I am determined to purchase a turntable with two tonearms, one fitted with a stereo cart and the other one with a mono cart (no room for two ‘tables). In fact, [an] Italian manufacturer ... is manufacturing both a dual-mono phonostage and a mono phonostage for me ....
... [M]y current budget ... is in the region of the 7,500 to 10,000 bucks for the entire turntable plus stereo arm/cart plus mono arm/cart set-up (cabling not included). Not that much, I’m afraid, buy still enough to get decent stuff to start with.
Any recommendations? (Please bear in mind that my system consist of an ECC82-based preamp and 845-based power amps driving (heavenly) the fabulous Quad 2905s.)
The lowest priced alternative I’m considering is the two-arm version of the Pro-Ject RPM 10 (it can be done), with two Pro-Ject 10cc Evolution arms (or one Pro-Ject 10cc Evolution arm and a Pro-Ject 12cc Evolution arm) and two Benz-Micro Glider carts (one stereo, the other mono). ... More costly alternatives I am contemplating include, as far as the turntable is concerned, the Transrotor ZET-1 or ZET-3, the Sheu Premier Mk III, etc."
Of course, the TW Acustic Raven One is another option. It actually seems the best option out there.
Would you recommend it? In the positive, what arms and carts would you consider most appropriate?
Thanks in advance for your help.
Ciao,
Ruggero
Hi Ruggero,
that is exactly the same I was thinking about the past months.
I had the opportunity to listen several weeks to the Raven one and decided to order an AC with two armboards.
One carries an Origin Live Conqueror with Lyra Dorian and the other one carries a SME 3012 with Denon 102 or AT3LP.
The carts has to be cheaper because I was running out of money.
I am very, very supprised what the Dorian can do. Now I am considering to buy a Dorian Mono too.
Not long ago I owned a Glider. It was not my cup of tea. It seemed to be a little bit slow in my system.
Because of my experience, I can say that the Raven one is not far behind the AC.
Try to get an audition.
All the best
Andreas
Hi Andreas,
thank you very much for your feedback. I must say that I have been recommended to listen very carefully to the Dorian, both the sereo and the mono version. Very interesting. How does the AC go along with the Conqueror and the 3012? Would you consider them good matches for the One too?
Ciao,
Ruggero
Hi Ruggero,
I am very satisfied with these two arms.
BUT......
it does not mean that other listeners would love it. Many use the Ravens with Da Vincis, Phantoms, SMEs or whatever.
Each of these arms has it own signature. You have to travel around to find out what is right for you.
I listened to the Phantom, SME V and the Breuer.
For me , only the Breuer could be better than the Origin Live. But I had it not in my system until yet.
Regards
Andreas
Hi Andreas.
I will definitely try and audition the Origin Live, if possible. BTW, you use it for the stereo cart, don't you? (While, of course you use --or plan to use-- the 3012 for the mono cart, am I right?)
Ciao,
Ruggero
Hi,
yes, the Dorian Stereo is in the OL arm and the both monos (DL102+AT3LP) are on headshells to use them with the 3012.
All the best
Andreas
@ stickman 451
Hi there,
have you been in Denver?
What do you think?
Hype or real?

Andreas
