Tubes / Valves

We all know that power surges and spikes can either (a) destroy electronic equipment instantly or (b) wear down electronic equipment over time causing premature failure.  My question is: is that any more or less true of tube-based equipment?  Ask another way: is it the transistors that are most prone to failure due to power irregularities, which would make transistor-free equipment more robust with respect to power anomalies, or is it the other components which are common to both (caps, resistors, etc) which tend to fail?

Basiclly power surges and spike, in one way or other do damage any electronics gear.
I find solid State equipment are more prone to power surges and spikes.
I live in the tropics where lightning is a norm, I have more failure with Solid states than tube equipment ( More forgiving) and if they blow you could alway fix it. Than Solid state you have to fix the PCB board as well.
