1. Realism triggers -- spatial presentation, tonal accuracy, dynamic contrast

Thank you for your description. The sound must be incredible. This section is a wonderful addition to the website.
Why the center speaker? What is the source media you feed it? Why is it set back from the side speakers?
This is a 5 channel system (see equipment details). Source media includes multi-channel SACD and DVD. The center speaker is set back so that it is behind the perforated projection screen when it is lowered (see picture below).

Tom,
Congratulations on a wonderful system and wonderful rooms too...
I never heard MBL , so I do not know how it sounds--but I think quite similar to Stats?
Where do you place the vinyl system? , what's the reason?vibration? , so from the phono amp you use long connection to the pre amp?
best regards n thanks
antono
The vinyl stuff is on the side for two reasons. First, I want it on a relatively high shelf for ease of use. With that placement it would be right in front of the center speaker and that seems acoustically wrong. Second, by putting it on the side it is farther from the speakers. The Rhea has balanced outputs, so the longer cables seem to be a non-issue.
I would say mbls and stats don't sound alike in some important ways. In others, there is a relationship. A speculative article could be written on this.

Tom Martin wrote: "The Rhea has balanced outputs, so the longer cables seem to be a non-issue." Tom, is there much of a difference in Balanced Vs. Non balanced when using Long interconnects between a Preamp and a power amp? What are your thoughts on that? I am considering a new interconnect around 20 feet long due to room/placement issues......but definitely concerned about the length of the cable especially if its RCA.
With a 20 foot single-ended cable from linestage to power amps, I had no trouble (and I tried several linestages). Over a shorter length the Rhea phono stage was noisy. Whether that's because phono preamps have lower output than a linestage or something specific to the Rhea, I don't know. Balanced cables should have less noise; that's why they are used professionally.

Mr. Martin,
I notice in one of your photos that you have a VPI SDS for your table. Would you give a brief description of sound with vs. without it in the system? My PLC isn't working and I'm considering replacing it. Thanks.
Beautiful set-up!
