While looking for a new pair of speakers in the $10k range I'm noticing a couple features I hadn't seen before and I'm wondering if someone can help me understand what they are and what advantages they provide:
1) Time Aligned speakers (e.g. Usher Audio Dancer CP 8571, Vandersteen Quattro, etc.)
2) Time & Phase Coherent (e.g. Theil, KEF??)
Thanks!
Cam
Take a look at:

The idea behind time- and phase-coherent loudspeakers is that the speaker's disparate drivers move in perfect unison and that their sound arrives at your ears at the same time. Some believe that time- and phase-coherence is a fundamental prerequisite to good sound. Other designers don't think it's that important.
Thanks for your input folks!
It looks as though some speaker manufacturers leverage a sloped baffle design (eg. Vandersteen, Usher Dancer) to acheive time coherence and others use a point source (e.g. KEF, Tannoy). Are there any advantages to one approach over the other?
